The Maligakanda Magistrate has issued a summons for former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella to appear before the CID at 9 am tomorrow (02). The order comes in connection to the case involving the alleged supply and purchase of substandard antibody vaccines using forged documents. The case was recalled at the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court today (01).
Numerous individuals, including Janaka Sri Chandragupta (Secretary of the Ministry of Health), Sugath Janaka Fernando (owner of the vaccine-supplying company), Dr. Kapila Wickramanayake (former director of the medical supplies department), Shantini Solomon (assistant director of the medical supplies department), Neran Dhananjaya (accountant of the medical supplies department), Sujith Kumar (stock controller of the medical supplies department), and HB Herath (deputy director of the medical supplies department) have been arrested and remanded in connection with the case.
The Attorney General has directed the CID to obtain statements from former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella for the second time, leading to an order for him to appear before the CID. Despite being instructed to present himself yesterday (31), Rambukwella did not comply, requesting an alternative date in writing.
This non-compliance sparked protests by civil organizations nationwide, demanding Rambukwella’s arrest. A peaceful protest organized by various civic and public groups took place in front of the CID yesterday (31), protesting against the lack of action despite evidence of Rambukwella’s involvement in the Immunoglobulin deal.
