A first-year student from the Faculty of Management at the Rajarata University has lost his life while swimming in the university swimming pool.
The incident occured yesterday (27) evening, around 5:00 pm. The student has gone swimming with five fellow students who were also studying in the same faculty.
Investigations conducted by the Mihintale Police have revealed that the student met his demise while attempting to enter the water from the deepest section of the swimming pool.
The victim, identified as twenty-one-year-old Murugadas Thilakshana, from the Kokuvil area in Batticaloa.
Following the incident, his body was transported to the Mihintale Regional Hospital and subsequently transferred to the Forensic Unit of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place today (28).
In response to the tragedy, the Mihintale Police, led by Chief Inspector H. Chandrasiri Ranjith, is intensively investigating the incident.
