A fatal shooting incident in Narammala, where a police officer fired at a lorry driver during a stop and check operation, has led to public protests and unrest. The driver died on the spot as a result of the gunshot.
The incident occurred in the Dampalassa area of Narammala when police attempted to stop and check a car that was being driven in defiance of police orders. Subsequently, a police officer mistakenly fired the firearm during the inspection, causing the death of the lorry driver, identified as a paint technician residing in the same area.

Following the shooting, a large crowd gathered in front of the Narammala Police station to protest against the police action. The situation escalated, requiring police officers from various stations to be called in to control the crowd.
A sub-inspector from the Narammala Police has been arrested on suspicion in connection with the incident. A Special Investigation Unit from the police headquarters has been dispatched to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The incident has sparked public outcry, with local residents expressing their opposition to the police actions. The Ministry of Public Security has directed attention to providing relief to the deceased driver’s family on behalf of the Sri Lanka Police.
