The Central Bank’s Retired Executive Officers’ Forum says that there are plans to remove Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe from the post of Governor of the Central Bank even without the consent of the President.
In a letter to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the forum said that the removal was taking place without the consent of the President and that immediate action should be taken to stop it.
They point out that Dr. Weerasinghe has been appointed for the remaining term of the former Governor of the Central Bank following his resignation and that his term will end on the 1st of July. Retired Executive Officers of the Central Bank has requested the President to reappoint Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe for the term of next six years.
They point out that experiments are not possible in the face of this serious situation facing the country and points out that Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe has the ability to act at this moment while maintaining the credibility and professional dignity of the Central Bank.
Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) today strongly denied reports that there is a rift between the Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe and the Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe.
