In a special gazette notification, a list of essential services has been declared to ensure the uninterrupted functioning of vital sectors. The announcement, signed by Acting President Secretary Chandani Wijayawardene, designates the following services as essential:
All services in connection with the supply of electricity, supply or distribution of petroleum products and fuel, maintenance and reception, care, feeding and treatment of patients in hospitals, nursing homes, dispensaries and other general institutions and all services, work of any description required or to be done or labour.
This designation aims to maintain stability and prevent disruptions in people’s lives by safeguarding the operation of these critical services.
