The fishermen of Rameswaran have been on strike since yesterday (16), demanding the immediate release of the Indian fishermen arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy.
Indian Rameswaran fishermen have stopped their vessels from going to sea and launched this strike.
The Sri Lanka Navy has arrested 17 Indian fishermen on the night of the 13th, of which 8 people are from Rameswaram area and the remaining 9 are fishermen from Pudukottai.
Five vessels where these fishermen came are under the custody of the Navy and the Rameswaran fishermen are demanding the release of those vessels through their strike.
So far in 2023, the Sri Lanka Navy has arrested 110 Indian fishermen and their 17 vessels and the fishermen were released after trial, but the vessels belonging to them were not released, Rameswaran fishermen claim.
