The ministry of Labour has devised a new scheme to enable the beneficiaries of the Employees Provident Fund to obtain their services without languishing in long queues.
Minister Manusha Nanaykkara says that the new programme will be implemented from September 1.
Accordingly, any employee can obtain the benefits of the Employees’ Provident Fund and arrange a date and time for employer registration by calling 1958 or by connecting to appointment.labourdept.gov.lk.
The Minister points out that the services through the Department of Labour will be provided sans queues hereafter.
Normal benefit applications, 30% benefit applications, deceased member’s heir benefit applications, and employer registrations can be done through this online portal.
Labour Commissioner General Prabhat Chandrakirthi said that the online facility, which was limited to the Labour Department head office at Narahenpita, will also be available at 40 district offices, 17 schools and 11 zonal offices after September 1st.
The Commissioner General said that instead of going to the office and getting numbers, they should book the time online to avoid difficulties in getting services and facilities.
The Commissioner General further said that the online process will be made mandatory after monitoring its progress and that the services of the Department of Labour will be rendered efficiently and promptly to minimise the inconvenience to the public.
