Vavuniya General Hospital has experienced its elevator being disabled for the fourteenth time this year, resulting in 11 individuals, including doctors, getting stuck inside. Hospital staff spent forty minutes working to rescue those trapped.
The frequent elevator malfunctions have forced hospital staff to manually transport critical patients in wheelchairs during these downtimes. In such cases, army personnel from nearby army camps step in to assist with patient transportation.
Employees at Vavuniya General Hospital have criticized the hospital’s management for not investing in a new elevator to replace the faulty one, despite significant expenditures on elevator repairs.
