An eighty-year-old pilgrim from Narammala who was part of a pilgrimage group, has drowned while swimming in the Tisava River near Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi.
This incident occurred yesterday (07) evening when the elderly man went for a swim and did not resurface.
Police teams promptly initiated search and rescue operations in Tissawewa and Basavakkulama tanks but couldn’t locate the man’s body.
In response, Anuradhapura police dispatched diving teams this morning (08) to search the river and its surroundings.
The missing individual is revealed to be D.E.D. Francis from No. 25, Veralagala Watta, Veralagala.
