According to Dr. Nuwan Hewagamage, Secretary of the Government Veterinarians’ Association, 100,000 chickens in egg farms have been sold for meat due to severe shortages in animal feed and medicine.
The egg producers are curently facing severe food and drug shortage for their hens. Due to that difficulties they are compelled o sell of their birds to meat producers Dr. Hewagamage said.
According to him the milk production also has been reduced by 30 million liters due to the lack of food for the dairy cows.
Hewagamage points out that there is a severe shortage of antibiotics , an increase in prices and a shortage of minerals and vitamins.
