Education Minister Susil Premajayantha has issued a directive urging schools across the island to postpone their inter-house sports events until after the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. This decision comes in light of the prevailing scorching temperatures, which pose potential health risks to students participating in outdoor activities.

Citing concerns over the extremely hot weather conditions, Minister Premajayantha emphasized the importance of prioritizing the well-being and safety of students. Accordingly, he stressed the need for schools to exercise caution and prudence in organizing outdoor sports events, particularly during periods of intense heat.

In response to the minister’s advisory, numerous schools have heeded the directive and postponed the selection of players for outdoor sports events. Additionally, indoor sports activities have also been deferred in accordance with the minister’s recommendation.

Expressing disappointment over the perceived lack of response from certain school authorities, Minister Premajayantha underscored the importance of adhering to the advisory issued by the Ministry of Education. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the welfare of students remains paramount and pledged to communicate with school authorities to ensure compliance with the directive.
