Following one of Ottawa’s most harrowing tragedies, the city united in grief as over a hundred mourners gathered for a solemn multi-faith funeral service on yesterday (17). Held at the Infinity Convention Centre, the ceremony served as a poignant tribute to the lives lost of the Sri Lankan family of newcomers and their friend who were brutally slain at their own home in the Barrhaven suburb, Ottawa, Canada.

The Last Rites…

The Infinity Convention Centre was filled with attendees paying their respects to the victims of the March 6th massacre in Barrhaven. Darshani Ekanayake, her four young children, and family friend Gamini Amarakoon were among those who tragically lost their lives. The devastating loss has left the community reeling, with expressions of sorrow pouring in from across the globe.

Bhante Suneetha, a revered monk, led the mourners in a poignant service, acknowledging the profound grief that enveloped the community. He spoke of the kindness of the Wickramasinghe family, emphasizing the enduring impact of their tragic deaths. As prayers echoed through the convention center, the collective weight of the loss was palpable.

Dhanushka Wickramasinghe, the sole survivor of the brutal attack, stood silently amidst the sea of mourners, his pain evident. Though he’s physically recovering from his injuries, his anguish was immeasurable. In a heartfelt statement, Wickramasinghe expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, even as he grappled with the unfathomable tragedy that had befallen his family.
