Although the President promised some members of the opposition and the ruling party a new cabinet reshuffle on more than six occasions, the government is of the opinion that it will not happen due to the speculations that it will affect negatively the next tranche of IMF’s financing facility, sources said.
The vast majority of economic experts in the country were of the opinion that it would not be wise to increase the government expenditure by increasing the cabinet and minister positions at this time.
Political sources close to the President also pointed out that the appointment of politicians who are now displeased by the people to cabinet minister positions at the request of Pohottuwa will not achieve any effective results.
Accordingly, the sources reveal that some members of the opposition as well as members of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, who are seeking the position of a cabinet minister, will have to wait for a long time.
