The president has asked PM to remain in order to protect the stability of the government amidst tlks with the International Monetary Fund .
The president has said that if the prime minister resigns, the cabinet will also has to be dissolved.
The sources said that the President had instructed the Prime Minister to be patient until the end of his dealings with the International Monetary Fund.

As of last week, the Prime Minister Mahinda had been receiving repeated calls for his resignation. It is learned that the advice was received from contemporary politicians and close associates.

Contemporary politicians and allies have stated that their dignity can only be protected by resigning in the face of the current crisis. But the prime minister’s personal soothsayers had advised him to stay in office as there was a good future ahead.
