Although there is a security net to nab people fleeing to India by boat from the north, but 11 Mannar residents have fled to Tamil Nadu in India yesterday (21).
A boat carrying people from Mannar to Tamil Nadu was found abandoned on a beach in Tamil Nadu by the Coast Guard.
Among those who escaped with the help of a fishing boat were four men and seven women, who were arrested by the Tamil Nadu Coast Guard and handed over to the refugee camp authorities.
So far, 69 people have left the Northern Province and gone to India by boat to seek asylum in India.
