The annual estimate for the expenses incurred by the Electricity Board in lighting the revered Dalada Perahara is traditionally sent each year. However, a proposed restructuring program for the Electricity Board suggests that a portion of the cost should be shared by the Sri Dalada Maligava and Satara Maha Devala. Pradeep Nilanga Dela, Diyawadana Nilama of Dalada Maligava, shares his perspective on the matter.

He reveals that the Electricity Board has consistently held the estimated cost of Rs. 90 lakhs from the previous year. He stresses that it is inappropriate for certain individuals to seek solutions through media channels when open discussions with the Electricity Board can resolve the issue amicably.

Highlighting the extent of illumination during the Perahara, He mentions that not only the temples but also police stations, bus stops, and even footpaths are adorned with additional light bulbs.

To address the rising costs, representatives from various entities, including the District Secretary, Perahara Trust, Police, Sri Lanka Transport Board, and City Council, plan to convene and discuss potential measures to minimize expenses. Their aim is to reach a mutually agreeable conclusion in collaboration with the Electricity Board
