All district secretaries have been advised to prepare for disaster situations ahead of bad weather condition prevails in the country , The President’s Media Division announces.
On the instructions of President Ranil Wickramasinghe, the Secretary to the President, Saman Ekanayake, has instructed the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government to command direct orders to the relevant ministries and departments.
Accordingly, covering all the 25 districts, the district management coordination units has been set up and Geological survey and mines bureau ,Meteorology Department and the National Building Research Organosation provide the technical support. The disaster management center under the Ministry of Defense provides the necessary instructions to the relief service officers at the district disaster management coordination units and divisional secretariat level.
All the line ministries have been informed about the necessary measures to avoid emergency situations and maintain the people’s life as well as the urgent measures to be taken in the event of an emergency situation.
Also, the 117 telephone number has been activated 24 hours a day to report an emergency.
