A discovery was made yesterday (15) in the Andankulam area of Mulathivu, as a group of unexploded ordnances, often referred to as “Johnny bomb bombs,” were found in a garden that was believed to have been cleared of landmines.
The landowner stumbled upon these unexploded bombs while attempting to clean the land and promptly reported the concerning finding to the Mullaitivu police.
Following an explanation of the situation to the court by Mullaitivu police, arrangements have been set in motion to safely retrieve the unexploded ordnances from the bomb nursery. Officers from the Police Special Task Force are tasked with this crucial operation.
Law enforcement authorities suspect that this group of bombs may have been used during the war to protect a camp or installation.
The Mullaitivu police have initiated an inquiry into the incident to ensure the safety and security of the area.
