Police officials who have been charged with criminal and disciplinary action by the Easter Commission for acting irresponsibly in connection with the Easter Sunday attack have gone to meet the Venerable Chief Prelate of Asgiriya chapter yesterday (19) were under the mentorship of a powerful cabinet minister, Lankasara learns.
The Police officers were led by Senior DIG Deshabandu Thennakoon and they appeal for the support from chief prelate to appear for them against the charges.
According to the sources, although the IGP did not like this step, due to the intervention of a Minister, these officers had the opportunity to express their grief.
About 20 officers suddenly gathered in Kandy for no official purpose, but they had violated all provincial travel restrictions.
These officials pointed out to the Chief Prelate that the Presidential Commission on Easter Sunday attacks had made such allegations as they were working in the areas where the attacks took place at the time of the Easter Sunday attack. These officials have further pointed out that they are Sinhala Buddhist officials and that no one is appearing on behalf of them.
Although these officials have tried to meet the Chief Prelate of Malwathu chapter they were not given an opportunity as the Chief Prelate was currently in quarantine.
