Three final year students from the Faculty of Dentistry have been admitted to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital for treatment after being assaulted by three students from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Peradeniya.
According to the university administration, the assault occurred at the Jayathilaka University dormitory around 2 am. The victims stated to the police that the engineering students, arriving on a drunken motorcycle, demanded a dholki drum. When the dental students refused, they were subjected to physical assault.
The Peradeniya police have identified the students responsible for the attack, and investigations are underway for their arrest. Simultaneously, the University of Peradeniya has initiated an internal investigation to address the incident.
