Not only the Omicron the new variant of concern of Covid but any virus in the world cannot completely stop coming to our country. But the important thing is to delay the arrival of the virus in Sri Lanka so that we have time to prepare for it, Dr Chandima Jeewanadara , a Sri Lankan leading reseracheron Covid says.
Speaking to the Lankasara Dr. Jeewandara further said that research on this new variety is already underway. In the next two to three weeks, we’ll be able to find out if there is a rapid spread of this strain, if there are any changes in the symptoms, or if there is a change in the existing immune system. Until then, the entry of this virus into this country should be delayed or stopped as much as possible.Visits to Sri Lanka from South African countries have already been banned. If there are any immigrants from those countries, they will be subjected to compulsory quarantine.

“The Ministry of Health should be commended for taking this decision soon. We have been collecting samples of people infected with Covid among those who have visited Sri Lanka during the past two weeks and sending them to our laboratory for testing. It will help us to identify those who are infected with this new strain. ” Dr Jeewandara further stated.
The researcher believes that since the Covid vaccination is at relatively low pace in South African countries may lead for new mutations of the virus.
