Court Permits Sending Bone Samples Of Mannar Graves to U.S. for Carbon-14 Dating

The Mannar Court has granted permission to send samples of human bones, discovered in two mass graves in Mannar, to the University of Florida laboratory in the United States for carbon-14 dating.

This decision was made during hearings related to the human remains found near the Sathosa Market and Thiruketeeswaran areas of Mannar. The court considered the request of lawyers to send the samples abroad, citing insufficient facilities in Mannar and Sri Lanka to determine the gender and time of death of the remains.

The court ruled that only a few bone samples would be sent to the U.S., as additional tests, including carbon-14 analysis, are required for the bones found in these mass graves.

The magistrate postponed the hearing to the 21st of this month after noting the absence of three officers who were expected to submit full reports on the mass graves. The court ordered all involved parties to appear on the next hearing date.
