The report submitted to the President by IGP Chandana Wickramaratne states that the majority of police officers on the list claiming to have been subjected to political revenge during the previous government were not victims of any such acts of revenge.

Therefore, Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera has told the ‘Aruna’ newspaper that the list of police officers who have been recommended for promotions claiming that they have been subjected to such political revenge will be re-examined.

The IGP has forwarded the report to the President and Minister Sarath Weeraseka on an order issued by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to investigate and report on whether the police officers on the political revenge list have actually faced such discrimination.

The report has noted that some of the officials on this list have been promoted during the previous government after claiming to have been subjected to political revenge and have now sought promotions under this government by making the same claim.

It has also been revealed that the recall of other officers from the VIP security service to the ordinary service has also been touted as political revenge. Even transfers made by top officials to prevent family breakdown due to extramarital affairs have also been included in the list as acts of political revenge.

The report was called after the President suspended the implementation of promotions as recommended by the Commission for the list of alleged victims of political revenge.
