The Malwathu Maha Viharaya has decided to temporarily suspend all positions held by Venerable Pallegama Hemaratana Thero, including the Chief Sanghanayaka of Nuwara Kalaviya of the Malwathu Chapter and the Chief Prelate of Atamasthana (Atamasthanadhipati).
According to a special statement issued upon the directive of the Most Venerable Mahanayaka Thero of the Malwathu Chapter, signed by the Registrar (Lekhakadhikari) of the chapter, Venerable Doctor Pahamune Sumangala Thero, this decision has been officially communicated.
The statement further reveals that in accordance with the order issued by the Karaka Maha Sangha Sabha (Executive Council) of the Malwathu Chapter, the Atamasthana Committee has decided to appoint the Chief Sanghanayaka of the North Central Province and Chief Incumbent of Ruwanweli Chethiyarama, Venerable Ethalawetunuwewe Gnanathilaka Nayaka Thero, to temporarily cover the duties and responsibilities of the Atamasthanadhipati position.
This crucial decision was reached by the Karaka Maha Sangha Sabha of the Malwathu Maha Viharaya today (30), after summoning all relevant parties to investigate and examine the facts regarding the allegations that have been leveled against Venerable Pallegama Hemaratana Thero.
The official statement issued by the Malwathu Chapter emphasizes that this temporary suspension has been enforced under the powers vested in the Karaka Maha Sangha Sabha, and it will remain in effect until the ongoing judicial proceedings regarding the allegations against Venerable Pallegama Hemaratana Thero are concluded and a final legal judgment is delivered.
