The Constitutional Council is scheduled to convene at the Parliament Complex today (07) at 1:30 p.m. to select the 37th Inspector General of Police (IGP).
This follows the official removal of Deshabandu Tennakoon from the post after President Anura Kumara Dissanayake approved the parliamentary motion passed for his dismissal. With his removal, the position of IGP is once again vacant.
Among the senior officers eligible for the appointment are Senior DIGs Lalith Pathinayake, Priyantha Weerasuriya, Sanjeewa Dharmaratne, Sajeewa Medawatte, Daminda Sri Rajitha, Kithsiri Jayalath, Ranmal Kodituwakku, and Ajith Rohana. These are the most senior officials currently serving in the Police Department and are under consideration for the post.
