Serious allegations have surfaced within the Ministry of Health, accusing several senior officials including a Deputy Director General of covertly tampering with the personal file of a Health Ministry Director currently under investigation for financial misconduct, sources said.
According to internal sources, efforts are allegedly underway to remove incriminating documents from the official’s personnel file in a bid to facilitate her promotion to the post of Deputy Director of Health Services. The Director in question has been accused of claiming allowances for overseas medical training programs while remaining in Sri Lanka — a charge that amounts to financial fraud.
It has further been reported that certain high-ranking ministry officials are replacing the removed documents with falsified records, allegedly to sanitize her file ahead of an upcoming interview. Interviews for nine senior-level vacancies, including the Deputy Director position, are scheduled to take place in the coming days.
“These actions are not only unethical but also deeply unfair to other qualified candidates competing for the same positions,” an internal source said, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter. “This is an intentional manipulation of the selection process by those in power.”
The revelations have raised serious concerns over transparency and accountability within the Ministry. Sources have also questioned whether the Minister of Health is aware of the alleged misconduct, or whether internal factions are operating without oversight.
As of the time of publication, the Ministry of Health has not issued a comment on the allegations. Attempts to contact relevant officials for a response were unsuccessful.
The unfolding situation adds to growing public concerns over corruption and political interference in the health sector — especially at a time when public trust in state institutions is already under significant strain.
