Amid ongoing discussions on revised tariffs, CEB Chairman Dr. Thilak Siyambalapitiya has reportedly tendered his resignation to the Energy Minister.
According to The Sunday Times, the resignation was prompted by undue interference from the political establishment and the Public Utilities Commission regarding cost-reflective tariffs.
Despite the CEB’s position that tariffs should be maintained at the prevailing rate, the Public Utilities Commission approved a 20 percent reduction in electricity tariffs in January this year.
The CEB has revealed that following the tariff reduction, it has begun incurring losses once again—similar to the financial situation prior to 2022.
