In the lead-up to the 2024 budget, the nation is immersed in cricket controversies, diverting attention from critical issues. The two days before the budget were dominated by an apparently ineffective proposal, pushing public sentiments repeatedly. Additionally, a money bill slated for debate was passed without discussion, leaving the public unaware of its contents.

Despite a defeat to India, parliamentary debates mirrored the lackluster performance, with the disclosed cost of proceedings reaching a significant 5 crores during the two-day pre-budget discussion. The focus on cricket and political maneuverings has raised concerns, especially as pressing problems such as hunger, health crises, and educational challenges persist.

As the 2024 budget approaches, to be presented by President Ranil Wickramasinghe, Minister of State for Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya assures the public of a budget that addresses short-term challenges and long-term upliftment. However, distractions and controversies raise questions about the allocation of resources and attention.

The people await the unveiling of the budget tomorrow (13), with a collective message urging a shift in focus from cricket distractions to critical issues affecting their lives. According to Dinamina newspaper, the Minister of State for Finance emphasizes that the budget aims to uplift the country in the long term while addressing immediate challenges faced by the people.
