The police have initiated search operations for a missing family following a landslide in Balangoda Gawaranhena, Vahinthenna area.
The police headquarters reported that the mother, father, and two daughters of the same family are unaccounted for, and efforts are underway to confirm whether they are buried under the landslide or have relocated.
Teams from the Ratnapura Disaster Management Center, the National Building Research Institute, and relief teams, including army personnel, have been actively involved in rescue efforts since the incident occurred last night. The landslide, triggered by the rainy weather in the area, affected Paskanda, damaging three houses.
Ratnapura District Geologist Engineer Abhitha Vanasundara from the National Building Research Institute revealed that second-level landslide risk notices had been issued for this landslide-prone area.
