The reopening of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) following the Covid 10 outbreak has once again been postponed indefinitely. It was scheduled to be opened on August 01.
However, according to Additional Secretary to the President (Foreign Affairs) Admiral Jayanath Colomabage the Covid 19 situation in other countries is also considered when making the decision to open Sri Lanka’s airports.
He added that nevertheless the initial steps and arrangements are being made to open BIA for travel. Meanwhile, two more groups of Sri Lankans stranded abroad will arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow (31). A group of 550 Sri Lankans from Dubai and Abhu Dhabi will be the first group to be repatriated after the government temporarily halted repatriations on July 14 after a new Covid 19 cluster was reported from the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Center.
