International reports have surfaced detailing a significant maritime incident in Baltimore, as the cargo ship named Dali, flying the flag of Singapore, collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge, leading to a substantial accident. The vessel was en route from the port of Baltimore to the port of Colombo when the collision occurred.
Naval data indicates that the Dali ship had departed from the port of Baltimore approximately half an hour prior to the accident, around 1 am local time.
Videos capturing the moment of impact between the 984-foot-long, 157-foot-wide container ship and the 1.6-mile-long Francis Scott Key Bridge on I-695 have circulated worldwide, though the exact cause of the collision remains unknown, resulting in severe damage to the bridge structure.
According to information from VesselFinder, the Dali is owned by Singapore-based company Grace Ocean and managed by Synergy Marine, also headquartered in Singapore. Constructed in 2015 by South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries, the ship has been chartered by Danish shipping company Maersk for cargo transportation in accordance with its schedule.
Contrary to initial reports suggesting the ship caught fire and sank after the collision, the shipping company has confirmed the safety of both captains and the crew, with no reports of water pollution in the surrounding waters. However, media outlets have highlighted the significant damage sustained by the ship, raising concerns about the possibility of its collapse.
