Omani investors are planning to pull out of Sri Lanka after the managing director of Al Obeydani Company was subjected to an attack by goons sponsored by a state minister.

The investors have pointed out that the attack was carried out by goons allegedly instigated by state minister Indika Anuruddha. The company’s factory is located in Seeduwa, in the Katana constituency.

The Omani ambassador in Sri Lanka has already informed Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabri about the company’s decision to stop all operations and leave the country since the country’s law and order system has failed to act promptly and bring culprits to justice. They feel that there is a lacuna in the law and that it has not been implemented properly.

The Omani ambassador has also arranged to forward a written notice in this regard to the President through the Foreign Minister.

This has transpired after a delegation of the top management of Al Obeydani Company met with Foreign Minister Ali Sabri on Monday, along with the Omani Ambassador to Sri Lanka.

If political goons continue to harass investors as in this case, Sri Lanka will suffer a sad fate in the future. The investors are believed to have said

Foreign Minister Ali Sabri has informed us that the President has been informed of the incident and has also assured the Omani ambassador that the law will be implemented as best as possible through the police.

Oman’s Al Obeydani Company is the main manufacturer of Oman’s national dress. Its sister company is comprised of an international network of upmarket sales outlets.

The company creates very expensive and high-quality ready-made clothes. It has provided direct employment for over 350 employees.

The managing director has been attacked by political thugs linked to Indika Anuruddha over an issue related to hiring a vehicle for the company’s transport department.

Although two suspects involved in the incident have been arrested, the police have failed to bring them before a magistrate and enforce the law.
