A Liberian flagged container ship has caught with fire some 480 nautical miles away from the Great Basses Reef Lighthouse, said the Sri Lanka Navy on Friday (25). It is reported in the engine room of the MSC Messina, a container ship.
The vessel has departed from Colombo harbour on the 23rd evening and it is currently sailing at 18.8 knots in the Southeast direction heading to Singapore.
According to the Maritime data, MSC MESSINA (IMO: 9074042) is a Container Ship that was built in 1995 (26 years ago) and is sailing under the flag of Liberia. Its carrying capacity is 4743 TEU and her current draught is reported to be 8.6 meters. Her length overall (LOA) is 299.95 meters and her width is 37.1 meters.
