Denial of the right of citizens who received the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine to the second dose , which is effective against the Covid epidemic, is a violation of the human right to equality. A group of senior scholars including Sri Lankan professors, university vice-chancellors, and former diplomats have submitted an open letter to the President and the Cabinet emphasizing the need to give the second dose.
The letter, signed by 14 senior intellectuals, states that there is already a stockpile of Astra Seneca vaccine in the country and that there is information that it was obtained as the second dose in an unauthorized manner, and that the government has stated that it expects another stock of Astra Seneca vaccine to arrive in the country. The letter also called for the second dose to be given in a transparent and formal manner. The full text of the article reads:
