Professor G.L Pieris Chairman of Sri Lanka Podujana Party says that the implementation of emergency law is against the basic principles of the Podujana Peramuna and as a professor of law he does not agree with this anti-democratic approach at all.

He and a group of the SLPP faction who voted for Dullas Alahapperuma at Presidential election vote , voted against the emergency in Parliament yesterday.

Calling a special media meeting today (28), Professor G.L. Peirce said:

“I am the founding chairman of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna. According to the current situation, the implementation of emergency rule is completely against the basic policies of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna. Regulations promulgated under the Emergency Law have the power to nullify, nullify and nullify all laws providing for the realization of human rights.”

“As the founding president of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and as a professor of law, I cannot at all justify the imposition of emergency in the current situation in Sri Lanka. That is why I voted against it yesterday.

Dallas Alahapperum who also joined the media briefing said that at the time of his candidacy for the last presidential election, two agreements were reached with the members of the ruling party, one was to vote against the emergency law, abstain the vote and protested against the government.
