The Director of Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama, Dr. Aruna Jayasekara, has advised the public not to contribute to a fundraising campaign reportedly aimed at purchasing Tomo-Therapy and Linear Accelerator machines for the hospital.
Dr. Jayasekara clarified that this campaign, initially suspended four years ago, has been restarted by an unidentified group despite instructions to halt it. Previously, the hospital collected Rs. 200 million from the public to buy a PET scanner, which was successfully purchased. However, acquiring Tomo-Therapy and Linear Accelerators requires Rs. 1 billion.
Since only Rs. 200 million has been raised, the collected amount will instead be used to purchase a CT Simulator machine. The account handling these funds is under the Ministry of Health, and further contributions are unnecessary, according to Dr. Jayasekara.
The Director also indicated that the project may be revived once a new Minister of Health assumes office.

Can I please know the latest news regarding this fund raising campaign of Apeksha Hospital which was suspended and halted by the authorities according to this news dated Nivember 2024 ?
Thank you!
