Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Senior Professor Udith K. Jayasinghe has come to the High Level Committee of Parliament on the 22nd and stated that this hasty decision taken for organic cultivation is wrong and that he is in great difficulty due to it.

It is said that he has requested for an opportunity for a discussion with the President regarding the issues arised.

Revealing this at a special media briefing held yesterday (23), the Leader of the JVP Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that due to an arbitrary decision of an individual, a great unrest has arisen in the country as well as in Parliament.

MP Dissanayake furter says
“The Speaker has also stated that his tea estate has been damaged. Minister of State Vidura Wickremanayake states that a petition signed by the MPs should be sent to the President. That is the reality.

“The President as an individual is making arbitrary fraudulent decisions. So this disastrous decision needs to be changed.

Nobody likes organic fertilizer cultivation. However, the President’s policy statement states that it will take at least 10 years. It is by abandoning all that that the President has taken this stupid decision.

However the president is now changing some things. The government has allowed to import pesticides and herbicides. Therefore, the crisis that has arisen in our country should be addressed by thinking about agriculture, food security and the lives of the farming community. More attention should be paid to that.
