Mangala Maddumage, a frontliner of the student’s wing of the Frontline Socialist Party, has been arrested by the police today.
He has been arrested by the Colombo South Division Crime Investigation Bureau on charges of violating court orders during the May 19 protest.
Making a statement to the media about this, the Education Secretary of Frontline Socilist Party, Pubudu Jayagoda said that Mangala Maddumage, who was a front-line activist in the Galle Face People’s Struggle as well as a founding member of Kandy Gotagogama protest site was abducted today between ten and eleven in front of the Colombo Public Library.
Pubudu Jayagoda said that when he came to a meeting called by Galle Face activists at the public library, a group dressed in civilian clothes came in a three-wheeler and has abducted him.
“If it was an arrest, you should be allowed to get legal assistance. When asked by the lawyers, he should be told where he is. That’s why we say this is a definite abduction… Ranil is doing it by saying that he will not take revenge and illegal arrests everywhere…”
Jayagoda further said that President Ranil Wickramasinghe may have to suffer a very bad experience if things are done in this way, and that the incident has been recorded as a complaint in the Human Rights Commission with eyewitnesses.
