Febrio de Soyza, the 19-year-old Sri Lankan national accused of the mass killing of a Sri Lankan family in Ottawa, has opted not to pursue bail, according to his lawyer.
Febrio was apprehended and charged in early March with six counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder after authorities discovered deceased family members in a townhouse located in the Barrhaven suburb, Ottawa, Canada.
Currently held in custody, Febrio de Soyza has conveyed through his legal representative, Evan Little, that he does not intend to seek bail at this juncture.
Having been studying in Canada as an international student,Febrio de Soyza is scheduled to appear in court next week, during which lawyers anticipate arranging a date for a preliminary hearing in his case.
Investigators allege de Soyza’s involvement in the deaths of 35-year-old Darshanee Ekanayake and her four children, aged between two months and seven years, along with a family friend. They suspect the use of a knife or similar sharp object in the commission of the crime.
