According to the Minister of Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekera, the Cabinet has approved the establishment of a Reform Secretariat to carry out the restructuring of the Ceylon Electricity Board and that the related restructuring process can be carried out in October.
Additionally, he tweeted that the related proposals were submitted to the Cabinet yesterday, and the Cabinet approved the road map and time frame of the restructuring process of the Ceylon Electricity Board.
Minister Wijesekera further states that by the end of May, the final draft of the New Electricity Act will be submitted to Parliament for approval.
The Minister also mentioned that the support of the Asian Development Bank, World Bank, USAID Institute, and JAITA Institute is anticipated on this matter, and a financial and human resource audit of the Electricity Board is expected to be carried out as well.
