A new scheme to pay the remuneration due to government servants who are on no-pay leave with the expectation of contesting the forthcoming LG elections is underway, State Minister of Local Government Janaka Wakumbura said.
The scheme would be devised once the Election Commission decides on the new election date for the LG elections.
He added that the methodology will be planned after the Elections Commissioner sets a new date tomorrow.
If the election commission put off the election indefinitely, then there would not be a problem paying the wages due to the state employees, he said.
If the Commissioner of Elections sets a new date for the election tomorrow, the question of paying these employees will recur according to the Election Act. But if there is no date set for the election, there is no problem paying the salaries.
