Yesterday (17) afternoon, a student from Peradeniya University tragically died after slipping and falling from Bambarakanda Falls during a picnic.
The student, named Sasanka Vikum Vitarana, was 24 years old and studying in the fourth year of the Faculty of Science at the University of Peradeniya.
Sasanka was visiting Bambarakanda Falls with others when the accident occurred. He fell from the upper part of the falls and couldn’t survive the fall.
He was a resident of the Samanala Lake area in Belihul Oya Pambahinna.
The student’s body has been taken to the mortuary at Diyatalawa Hospital, and the Haldummulla police are currently investigating the incident.
