Cillian Murphy made history at the 96th Academy Awards as he became the first Irish-born actor to win the Best Actor award, marking a triumphant night for the film “Oppenheimer.” The Christopher Nolan-directed film dominated the ceremony, securing wins in multiple categories, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Murphy’s portrayal of theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer earned him critical acclaim and the prestigious Best Leading Actor award. In his acceptance speech, Murphy expressed his overwhelming pride as an Irishman and thanked the film’s director and producer for the creative journey they embarked on together.

Robert Downey Jr., known for his iconic role as Iron Man, secured the Best Supporting Actor award for his performance as US government official Lewis Strauss in “Oppenheimer.” In his humorous yet heartfelt speech, Downey Jr. reflected on his personal journey and expressed gratitude to his wife for her unwavering support.

Christopher Nolan, the mastermind behind “Oppenheimer,” received the Best Director award and expressed gratitude for the recognition of his career-long dedication to filmmaking.

The Oscars also honored outstanding achievements in filmmaking beyond the realm of fiction. Documentaries such as “20 Days In Mariupol” shed light on important global issues, while American Fiction and Anatomy of a Fall were recognized for their exceptional screenplays.

In the animated feature film category, Japanese fantasy film The Boy and the Heron triumphed over competitors, while Wes Anderson secured his first Academy Award in the live-action short category.

The 96th Academy Awards showcased a diverse range of cinematic excellence, highlighting the power of storytelling to captivate and inspire audiences worldwide.
