Three-Member Cabinet with 15 Ministries Appointed in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s new government, with a three-member Cabinet, was appointed today (24th) at the Presidential Secretariat. Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and MP Vijitha Herath were sworn in as ministers in front of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The Cabinet consists of 15 ministries, formed by combining several previous ministries. The key portfolios are distributed as follows:

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake* holds:

  • Ministry of Defence
  • Ministry of Finance, Economic Development, Policy Formulation, Planning, and Tourism
  • Ministry of Energy
  • Ministry of Agriculture, Land, Livestock, Irrigation, Fisheries, and Aquatic Resources

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya* is responsible for:

  • Ministry of Justice, Public Administration, Provincial Councils, Local Government, and Labour
  • Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology
  • Ministry of Women, Child and Youth Affairs, and Sports
  • Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, Cooperative Development, Industries, and Entrepreneur Development
  • Ministry of Health

MP Vijitha Herath*, a long-time MP from the JVP, manages:

  • Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, National Integration, Social Security, and Mass Media
  • Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation
  • Ministry of Public Security
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Ministry of Environment, Wildlife, Forest Resources, Water Supply, Plantation, and Community Infrastructure
  • Ministry of Rural and Urban Development, Housing, and Construction

The event was attended by MP Lakshman Nipunaarachchi, former MPs Sunil Handunnetti, Bimal Ratnayake, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Wasantha Samarasinghe, Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, and H.S. Sampath Thuyacontha.
