Twenty Sri Lankan youths detained in slavery cyber scam hubs in Myanmar have been released today, as reported by the *Daily Mirror*. The youths have been handed over to immigration authorities, confirmed Ambassador Prabhashini Ponnamperuma in Myanmar.
According to sources, 54 Sri Lankan victims who were lured by promises of high-paying IT jobs were instead trapped in dedicated apartments, forced to work as online scammers. These scam centers are located in Myawaddy, Myanmar.
The released youths will be sent back to Sri Lanka after clearance. Reports indicate that the released individuals were transported to Thailand through a border area.
Several steps were taken by the government, diplomats, and opposition MPs to secure the release of these youths. However, this is the first instance where Myanmar has responded positively, resulting in the release of 20 people.
