The Settikulama police have arrested a 19-year-old individual suspected of killing a couple in a shop in Settikulama, Vavuniya.
The suspect was apprehended along with stolen gold items belonging to the murdered husband and wife. The stolen items and the clothes worn by the suspect at the time of the incident were found dumped in a well in Kilinochchi during the police’s interrogation.
The suspect revealed that the clothes were disposed of due to the presence of a significant amount of blood. Additionally, police recovered 10,000 rupees stolen from the shop by the suspect.
The victims, 72-year-old Pasupathi Varnakulasingham and his 68-year-old wife Kanakalakshmi, were found dead in their shop on Thursday (30). The police are conducting further investigations into the case, and the arrested suspect will be produced before the Vavuniya court.
