In response to the recent protest against the restructuring of the Electricity Board, 15 cash clerks have been suspended for obstructing the payment of electricity bills by closing cash windows. The decision to suspend these employees was made by the management of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) following the instructions of Power Minister Kanchana Wijesekera.
The Minister directed the CEB management to take action against any employee who obstructs services or acts in violation of the guidelines issued by the management. In accordance with established rules, the 15 cash clerks were suspended as a disciplinary measure.
