A 14-year-old schoolgirl from Samagipura, Puttalam, was gang-raped by two schoolboys, one aged 13 and the other 18.
The Vanathavilluwa police promptly arrested the two students involved in this heinous crime.
According to the police statistics, it has been found that the number of rapes reported on a daily basis has increased abnormally and between 8-10 cases of rape are being reported daily. Furthermore, there has been a concerning increase in incidents of fathers raping their own daughters in recent times.
