For the very first time, the government of Sri Lanka has decided to issue a special licence to casino businesses in the country

Accordingly, it has been decided to charge a fee of 500 million rupees (50 crores) to every casino operating in the country for licencing purposes, and they have been told to pay it before October 30.

The Commissioner General of Inland Revenue has made this decision under the Casino Business (Regulation) Act 2010.

The casino enterprise owned by Dhammika Perera, who is regarded as the king of the Sri Lankan casino industry, will be largely affected by the 500 million rupee tariffs levied on casino businesses under this act. Industry sources said

His business portfolio owns three of the five major casinos currently operating. Business sources said that even though he had left his directorships before he was sworn in as a Member of Parliament recently, the business is still under his leadership.

Casino businesses like Baileys, MGM, and Bellagio are under him, and thus 150 million in licence fees have to be paid by those businesses before the end of October.
