Dr. Kamal Jayasinghe, Director General / Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Regulatory Authority (NDRA) says that discussions have commenced to import the Pfizer Covid vaccine, which is manufactured in the UK, to Sri Lanka.
Dr. Jayasinghe points out that some of the discussions on Zoom technology were conducted by experts from the National Drug Regulatory Authority (NDRA) along with UK experts that developed the “Pfizer” vaccine.
The Director-General also said that the safety, quality and efficacy of the vaccine were discussed at length during these discussions.
However, Dr. Kamal Jayasinghe said that the relevant documents have been requested so that they could be examined by an expert committee of the National Drug Authority. “After receiving the relevant documents, the expert committee will examine them and decide if the vaccine can be brought to this country or not” he noted.
